About Us

The California Department of Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. These services are provided locally by contracted agencies. This webpage is intended for those who provide, or seek to provide, Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) services.

Tri-County Independent Living

Tri-County Independent Living (TCIL), was established in 1978 as Humboldt Access. In 2003 the name changed to Tri-County Independent Living (TCIL). TCIL is a non-profit organization serving people of all disability types and ages, most at no charge, in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. With dedicated staff members, TCIL is a leader in providing disability services and advocating for disability related issues.

What is a Center for Independent Living (CIL)?
A Center for Independent Living is a client controlled, community
based, cross-disability, non-residential non-profit agency designed and operated within a local community by individuals with disabilities.

CILs are at the core of ACL’s independent living programs, which work to support community living and independence for people with disabilities. These programs provide tools, resources, and supports for integrating people with disabilities fully into their communities to promote equal opportunities, self-determination, and respect. Hours and days of operation are M-F 8:00-4:30 pm, closed from 12 pm-1 pm for lunch. The front office takes initial information by phone or walk-in and clients are referred to a service provider for an appointment. Languages spoken are English and Spanish. Building is wheelchair accessible.

Our Mission
To promote the philosophy of independent living, to connect individuals with services, and work to create an accessible community so that people with disabilities can have control over their lives and full access to the communities in which they live.

  • Assistive Technology
  • Transition & Diversion
  • Independent Living Skills
